The biggest thrill is being honored with the RWA "Nora Roberts
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD"!
When the Board of Directors called, I think I was dancing off the ceiling for weeks.
The RWA website has a wealth of specific information, but for a quick summary:
"One of the highest honors RWA bestows is the RWA Nora Roberts Lifetime
Achievement Award. This award is presented to a living author in recognition of
significant contributions to the romance genre."

The national RWA writer’s conference took place at the Wardman Marriot in D.C., from July 15
through July 18th. Around 2,000 writers worked all day—and partied all night—celebrating books
and writing and readers. I participated in the Librarians & Booksellers Day (a favorite!), joined 300+
authors for our annual Literacy Autographing (another favorite!), and gave a workshop with Barbara
Keiler on ‘Misbehaving Muses.’
The highlight of every national conference is the Award Ceremony on Saturday night, where we all
dress up & glitz up to support the best books in our genre. We laugh, we cry—and we dream—as
each Golden Heart and Rita winner is announced. The end of the evening is when the Lifetime
Achievement Award is given out.
I’m still humbled to think I could have been chosen for this. I started my thank you speech with
these comments….
“I believe…from my heart…that you and I have the power to make a serious, positive difference in
women’s lives across the globe."
“I believe…from my heart…that we do this with every book, every heroine, through the values we
stand up for in our genre."
“We all share the same values—a belief that love has power, that compassion and respect and
honor matter….”
Hope you enjoy the photos from the awards ceremony—J.G.
